Transportation Infrastructure Construction by Shapoorji Pallonji

Across the country, Shapoorji Pallonji has constructed various forms of transportation infrastructure, making life for the residents and businesses nearby more efficient by cutting down on travel time.

Zuari Rail bridge in Goa

The iconic Zuari Rail bridge in Goa was constructed in 1994 and is one of Shapoorji Pallonji's oldest projects in transportation infrastructure. Built across the Zuari river, the 1.225-kilometre bridge connects the north and south Goa. It was constructed using two 123.2 metre steel trusses on well foundations, along with PSC superstructure on pile foundations.

The Airoli bridge, constructed in Thane in 1999 is stretched over 1.87 kilometres. The bridge is built by using monolithically cast 800 MT box girders, making it the first of its kind in India. The bridge connects Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, two of the most commercially viable districts in the country.

Shapoorji Pallonji was the main contractor in constructing the LNG Jetty facility in Kochi in 2003. The project is one of India's busiest storage and offloading facilities; the civil works of the two LNG tanks with 310,000 KL capacity in total were delivered with IHI.

Barakhamba Underground Metro Station

The Barakhamba underground metro station, constructed in 2006, is special in that it was completed by Shapoorji Pallonji in an impeccable time of 22 months. The geographically important metro station was constructed using the 'top-down' technology without the help of a foreign JV partner, which was another first in India.

The Refinery Jetty in Jamnagar, Gujrat built-in 2011 was a challenge for the construction giant because of its intricate structural fabrication, the erection of 71 trestles modules, hydro-carbon pipeline laying, auxiliary mooring platform erection and publication, and more. However, the project was delivered on schedule, completed with testing and commissioning.

In the same year, Shapoorji Pallonji constructed the 3 Grade Separator in Gazipur. It was New Delhi's first dedicated cyclist, pedestrian, and non-motorised track. The project has a 770 metres long 8-lane flyover, a 6630-metre 4-lane underpass, and a 3-metre carriageway on each side for non-motorised vehicles.

In 2014 and 2015 the company worked on bettering the connectivity of Jammu and Kashmir to the rest of the country. With the Jammu Udhampur highway, travel time by road has fallen drastically, while the KRCL tunnel in Sangaldan would aid railway services in the state.

However, Infrastructure is not the only focus of the Shapoorji Pallonji group. From Engineering & Construction to Energy, Real Estate, Water, and Financial Services, Shapoorji Pallonji has been pushing the envelope as far as innovation is concerned. The organization is diversified into 18 major companies, with a workforce of over 50,000, spanning 50 countries.
