My honey-do list is long and long in the tooth (though my cats don’t care). But I have painters at my house right now, so I’m scrambling to get all exterior wood repairs done that I should have done years ago. That way, I don’t have to also do the painting! So last week I fixed my screen door, and this weekend, I built a ledged door for my cellar (just one – the other one is in good enough shape that it doesn’t need replacing…yet).
Sure, I could have bought metal Bilco doors…but where’s the fun in that? We’re woodworker’s right?! So, after getting my Red grandis down to thickness, I pulled out our book “Doormaking and Window-Making” for a quick look to make sure I wasn’t about to do something completely stupid, then grabbed my No. 48 and started groovin.’
It is not perfect, but for an exterior door on the back corner of my house, it is perfect enough.
Now on to the next long overdue project. One of them, anyway.

Door Frames
Since I had “Doormaking and Window-Making” sitting on my bench, I thought I might as well post an excerpt. Here’s how to make a door frame. (And with no frame, I recommend not assuming the opening is square. DAMHIK.)
