It is summer in Colorado, so it is time to get outside and spend some of your free time in the water! Colorado gets a bad wrap for having a dry climate, but there are many wonderful places to go swimming. In fact, we've gotten more rain this summer than usual and several popular swimming areas have seen an increase in elevation. Continue reading for some of the most popular swimming spots in Colorado. Swimming in Colorado
One of the most popular swimming spots in Colorado is Paradise Cove in Guffey. This hidden gem of a swimming spot is located two hours south of Denver and an hour from Colorado Springs. Officially named "Guffey Gorge," this is a naturally fed pool surrounded by beautiful cliffs. That means that there are opportunities for cliff-jumping with heights anywhere from 20 to 80 feet. The area around the water is beautiful too, with canyons and mesas to explore and photograph. Remember, to get to Paradise Cove you have to hike a one-mile trail, so be prepared for a short hike.
Another popular swimming spot is called the Devil's Punch Bowl. This swimming area is located in Aspen. It is another natural pool with blue waters that average about 12 feet deep. The Punch Bowl also has nearby cliffs. Swimmers that like like some extra elevation can jump off the 25-foot cliffs into the pool or start on smaller ledges. Not much into swimming? You can explore the rocks or easily watch cliff-jumpers from many spots. There is no camping allowed at the Devil's Punchbowl, but the Weller Campground is not far away.
