This is the type of tight-knit, beautiful community you often long for, but never find.As one would expect from such an established community, Brook Hills has experienced significant home remodeling over the years, and in some cases truly magnificent homes have also been built on the rare vacant lots that Mr. Pergande left 75 years ago. But although almost all lots have been developed in Brook Hill, the parcels are mostly between ½ acre and one acre in size with significant natural landscaping, enhanced by the good taste and pride of ownership permeating the entire community. This quality of life cannot be praised highly enough in an area in which surrounding neighborhoods have popped up as more traditional suburbs. But rather than being suffocated by development, Brook Hill has become a desired oasis. While walking the streets in Brook Hill, you would have no idea that you are in Annandale, Virginia, inside the Washington Beltway.
Peppered within the community are some of the most unique and imaginative newer homes that complement the original styles to perfection. This is a first-class community and truly a hidden gem, in every sense of the term. All of this in a rustic setting, embedded in mature trees and well-maintained undergrowth and small ponds that provide the natural habitat for geese and other friendly wildlife. So besides being an architectural gem, Brook Hill remains an environmentally-friendly gem as well, appealing to young professionals with school-age children, retired people with no desire to move, and everyone in between. All of this in an amazingly convenient location.
The charm of Brook Hill Estates obviously comes at some additional cost, as nearby housing developments provide housing at lower price-per-square-foot. But the additional features, ambiance, and rustic community feel and beauty transcend any slight increase in cost. Stated differently, the additional value of living in Brook Hill Estates exceeds the additional cost of houses here by an amount exceeding the difference in comparative sales prices. People truly care about the place they live in ways you simply do not find in most other communities. It is like living in an upscale neighborhood "in the country" without the inconvenience that such a location might bring to working people.
We cannot recommend Brook Hills Estates highly enough for those seeking the qualities we described above.
