Phnom Penh: The emergence of the new Covid-19 Omicron virus has been causing uncertainty in the global financial real estate market again, yet for Cambodian experts remain optimistic but also concerned.
Ann Sothyta, CEO of PropNex Cambodia, said by telephone on the morning of November 30 that the emergence of a new virus would not be a major issue, as the world may soon have a solution. Like the Delta virus, when it first appeared, there was widespread vaccination in Cambodia, as a result of which the government managed it well.
"I believe that we can solve this problem by opening the door to international tourism, where Cambodia will be able to receive more visitors, because for the past two years, people around the world have detained themselves, so "When the situation improves, they will go out a lot." "Tourism will grow rapidly in the near future," she said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kheang Puthy, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Real Estate Professionals of Cambodia said this morning, December 1 that the appearance of this new virus will not be a problem because we have a vaccine and scientists have announced there is a vaccine that can fight this virus.
"I do not think it's a big deal because people all over the world are already immune to Covid-19 virus and we already have a vaccine against it," he said.
However, Oknha Kim Heang, President of KW Cambodia, cautioned that so far, we do not know how fast and lethal the virus is and that no country has shut it down because of this virus yet.
"We do not yet know the extent of the virus, but if we are a little more careful, it will not be wrong," he said.
The president of Cambodian Valuers and Estate Agents Association, Chrek Soknim, also spoke cautiously about the new virus, saying that if the virus could not be controlled and people could not get out, it would be very clear that the real estate sector as well as other aspects of the economy will be affected.
"It's a bad sign, but if we and the world can control it, it will not be a problem," he said. "If Omicron does not cause serious harm."
